Some will be running special sensory days at certain times, while others have offered a month-long service. To help make this time of year as stress-free as possible we have compiled a list of autism-friendly Christmas events around the country. A visit to Santa’s Grotto may mean a long wait in a noisy queue to meet an unfamiliar person. For an autistic person, a Christmas fair can be a sensory minefield of overwhelming sights, sounds and smells. While an Autism diagnosis doesn’t mean someone dislikes Christmas, indeed many autistic people love this time of year, it does mean Christmas events may present certain barriers. Unfortunately, families with an autistic child (or indeed autistic parents) may struggle to find autism-friendly yuletide events. We all love going to a fair, a market or creating beautiful memories in Santa’s grotto. As we enter the festive period, families across the country as starting to buzz with excitement.
